Event Description

Documenting the Sounds of Africa: Archiving, Instruments, and Researching the Local

Symposium Celebrating the Re-opening of the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive and Honoring the Work of Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje

“Documenting the Sounds of Africa” celebrates the re-opening of the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive after the recent renovations. It is also a way to honor Professor Emerita Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje, who was Director of the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive from 2000 to 2007, and whose work has focused on African American and African music. The symposium will feature paper panels, a keynote by Dr. Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje, and a concert of music from Africa and the diaspora. We will also have an open house to show off the newly re-designed Archive rooms. Please save the date. Further details will be forthcoming.
