“The Five Koshas: Experiencing the 5 Layers of Being” will be the topic of a lecture and 90 minute Asana (Yoga) practice by Purusha Hickson. Join us as we investigate the deeper regions of mind, heart and soul!
Kosha is a Sanskrit word that literally means “sheath.” For example, a sheath that encases a sharp sword. The Five Koshas include every aspect of our physical, mental, and spiritual being. Through yoga postures
(asanas), systematic breathing (pranayama), and focused study (swadhaya), we will explore and, prayerfully, experience these sheaths or layers of our being in new and fascinating ways! Our physical body is only the outer most layer.
Purusha Hickson has been teaching Hatha Yoga for over 40 years. His principle spiritual teacher is Swamini Turiyasangitanandaji also known as Alice Coltrane. He has made over 10 trips to India, and has studied with great hatha yoga masters such as Swami Satchidananda (Integral Yoga), the Iyengars in Pune (Iyengar Yoga), and Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, (Ashtanga Yoga.) His classes are characterized by a unique blend of spirit, technique, and humor.
