Event Description

Three nights of dance by one of Los Angeles’ most revered of icons, Lula Washington Dance Theatre.

Thursday, Jan. 11 – 8 pm. African American Male Voices. Experience choreography by Donald Byrd; Rennie Harris; Christopher Huggins; and Lula Washington whose work is set to the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Friday, Jan. 12, 8 pm., Dances With Social Meaning – These dances touch on issues of Police killings of black boys; the civil rights movement; and Tamica Washington-Miller’s new work, “There Is Always Tomorrow”, which looks at life with and without rose colored glasses. Includes live music by Marcus L. Miller Drums.

Saturday, Jan. 13, 8 pm. Lula Washington Dance Theatre performs her new suite, Open Your Eyes, to music by Earth, Wind & Fire; and Tamica’s charming dance about children enjoying life in New York, Snowy Day.
