Sometimes a self care practice is a lifeline in trying times. That was the case for Ericka Huggins, who was drawn to meditation while in prison. In May 1969, Huggins and Bobby Seale, both leading members of the Black Panther Party, were arrested on conspiracy to murder charges. While awaiting trial for two years before charges were eventually dropped, Huggins spent time in isolation and in solitary confinement, where she taught herself to meditate as a tool to face the recent death of her husband, John Huggins, and the separation from their baby daughter. Hear how she continues to incorporate spiritual practice into her community work as a speaker, facilitator, and teacher for change.
