Event Description

This month’s Sister’s @ 8 topic: Mental Health Awareness – Healing the Mind. Curing the Stigma.

We’ll discuss the barriers to care and how the sociopolitical issues (racism, discrimination, and sexism, low-income jobs) impact mental health.

Are wearing multiple hats, wearing you down? How does age factor in the types of care black women seek? Does guilt and shame play a factor? What are our belief systems about mental illness and what coping strategies work for our people? Let’s discuss. See you there!

Hosted by Black Women For Wellness. Black Women for Wellness is a multi-generational, community-based organization committed to the well being of Black women and girls by building healthy communities through health education, empowerment and advocacy.  Sisters @ Eight is Black Women for Wellness’ community forum, which brings hot topics and major health and wellness issues to the forefront of public conversation.
