In May, 1961 Cannonball Adderley and his brother, cornetist Nat, added Victor Feldman to their quintet to record Plus on the Riverside label. Feldman’s vibraphone added new dimension to the lush yet intricate horn harmonies which defined the quintet’s sound. The foot-tapping result falls between funky soul-jazz and hard bop.
Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley met in Columbus, OH. Cannonball urged Nancy to move to New York. She took his advice & joined Cannonball in the recording studio in June of 1961. Though designed as a showcase for Wilson’s youthful voice, the recording, released on the Capitol label, has become one of history’s seminal jazz recordings.
