Happy Birthday, Stevie Wonder!

Black Cultural Events wishes Stevie Wonder a very Happy 67th Birthday! Wonder was born Stevland Hardaway Judkins on May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a child prodigy and signed his first record contract at age 11 under Motown’s Tamla label. Wonder is skilled in a wide range of instruments including piano, synthesizer, harmonica, various drums, and of course his distinctive voice. He also composes music and has done so for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, and Smokey Robinson.

Wonder’s body of work cover topics from humanitarian issues and politics, to romantic and familial love. He is well celebrated with 25 Grammys and inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1989), the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2002), and the NAACP Hall of Fame (2009). He was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama (2014) and has also received honors from Sweden and France.
