Event Description
Celebrate Juneteenth with the Afro-American Chamber Music Society Orchestra with music depicting slave life from the African castles to the plantation featuring Gwen Brown, Soprano from the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Be transported as the slave ships embark upon their long voyage from the ports of Africa with the “Cape Coast Castle Symphony” by Dr. Joyce Moorman, followed by the “African Suite” by Nigerian composer, Fela Sowande.
With African Drumming, Folk Songs, Shout Spirtuals, Moans and Hollers the audience journeys through slave life from its very early beginnings at Cape Coast Castle slaveholding cell, on to the Plantation and finally to Freedom!
“Echoes from the Journey” by Zenobia Powell Perry is an entertaining compilation of Negro Spirituals and rich historic narration chronicling the struggle featuring internationally renowned Spinto Soprano, Gwen Brown, and the AACMSO Choir.
