Event Description

Ska might be a household name these days but it wasn’t like that 25+ years ago when groups of Southern California musicians and scenesters – inspired by the Jamaican grooves and British fashion of the ‘60s – dedicated themselves to a global genre and subculture to help kick-start this revival.

Five prominent figures from the many sub-genres of ska will gather for a special, intimate panel discussion at The GRAMMY Museum for Part 2 in the History of L.A. Ska series. Legendary front-man/saxophonist/theremin wizard Angelo Moore (Fishbone/Dr. Madd Vibe), singer/guitarist/promoter Chris Murray (CMC/King Apparatus/Bluebeat Lounge), drummer/singer/radio host Darrin Pfeiffer (ex-Goldfinger), singer/saxophonist Kip Wirtzfeld (The Skeletones/The Debonaires), and ska aficionado/radio host/promoter Tazy Phyllipz (The Ska Parade) will reminisce about the early years, discuss their influences, share stories from the road, and much more. Radio host/emcee Junor Francis will moderate.
