Join us for an afternoon of hard-hitting, soul stirring, poetry and spoken word, celebrating the 50th Golden Anniversary of the earth-shaking album: The Black Voices: On The Streets in Watts.

Rolling Stone Magazine named this album one of the top 40 Ground Breaking Albums of All Time. Release on Laff Records in 1970, this album featured – Father Amde of The Watts Prophets, Odie Hawkins, Emory Evans and Ed Burrell.

The New Watts Writers’ Workshop is the grandchild of the 1965 Watts Writers’ Workshop. This workshop is dedicated to creating, preserving and re-imagining the narrative of our beloved city. Stay tune for more events and projects centered in a collective love for this historic city.
