Overview
Orlean Dubuclet and Carol Jo, for whom the business is named, launched CJ’s in a bedroom in the family home in April 1969 as a gift to celebrate Carol Jo’s birthday. A year and a half later they moved to the Windsor Hills/ View Park area of Los Angeles, and began dressing professional and political powerhouses, socialites and celebrities in day to evening wear and couture, and have been a mainstay for almost 50 years..
Its now been over 40 years since Carol Jo and Orlean started selling clothes out of a bedroom. Today CJ’s Elegance bears the distinction of being one of the oldest, black owned, women’s retail clothing businesses in Los Angeles.
