A Los Angeles institution, Eso Won Books is an independent Black-owned bookshop founded in 1987 that spotlights a range of titles written by and about African American people.

Eso Won Books was recently named “Best Independent Bookstore” in LA Weekly ‘s Best of LA 2017.

The name of Eso Won Bookstore comes from the African term “EsoWon,” which means “water over rocks.” The store strives to be “a living proverb as it provides fluid, safe, stirring opportunities that flow to a reservoir of knowledge for all people to experience.”
