Come out to the 5th Annual Sutro Avenue Summer Soiree & Jazz Festival in historic Leimert Park! You will enjoy a live DJ, Jazz Lounge, hosted Wine Lounge, Kids’ Zone, Community Resource Zone, Health and Wellness Zone, as well as Food Trucks, Prize Drawings, and more. This well-respected and highly anticipated event plays a vital part in promoting family, community and the arts. FREE admission and open to the public.

Legendary percussionist has been featured in performances and recordings by a wide range of artists such as Carlos Santana, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea, and the list goes on. Today, Pete Escovedo leads one of the top Latin-Jazz Orchestras in the country.

Peter Michael Escovedo III, two time Emmy nominated Producer and Musical Director has earned recognition not only as a percussionist, but a producer, director, singer, songwriter, and television personality.

Peter Michael (named after his father, percussionist and original member of Santana…Pete Escovedo) has contributed in countless world tours, recordings and television production.

The Myron McKinley Trio is a powerhouse group comprising multi-hyphenates Myron McKinley (keys), Ian Martin (bass), and Stacey Lamont Sydnor (percussion). As journeymen bandmates for some of the greatest groups and artists in music history, these three friends are now collaborating to make music of their own and electrifying live audiences in the United States, Europe and the Far East.

McKinley is a pianist, producer, songwriter, programmer, and film score composer for hit box office films and television shows. Born and raised in Los Angeles and a University of Southern California alumni. He is currently the music director and keyboardist for legendary ensemble Earth Wind & Fire, having also been on tour with the late Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and many others.

Ian Martin is an accomplished bassist, writer, and producer. Martin’s accomplished solo career has earned him first-call status with many artists including David Foster, Barry Manilow, and Barbra Streisand.

Stacey Lamont Sydnor is a music director, producer, drummer, percussionist, songwriter, and composer for an assortment of Emmy winning TV shows.  Sydnor has worked in every possible genre of music performing with artists from Hilary Duff to P. Diddy, Alicia Keys, and more.

The trio’s first released EP, “Time”, has emerged as a break-out success enjoying widespread radio rotation throughout California, Georgia and Washington, DC.
Lynne Fiddmont graduated from Boston University and also attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music then moved to Los Angeles, landing her first gig with the Jazz Crusaders. She became an in-demand studio and touring singer working with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Phil Collins, Barbara Streisand, George Duke, Michael Jackson, Dave Brubeck, Babyface and Stanley Clarke (among many others).

Derf Reklaw is a world renown multi-instrumentalist, composer, lecturer and educator. His band, Derf Reklaw Da Cuz Mo, consists of Michael Alvidrez, an up and coming bassist of enormous talent; Reggae Clark, a versatile drummer and percussionist, formally with Oscar Brown Jr.; Jae Jei Kabassa, a percussionist and leader of West African influence dance groups; and Bobby West, one of the most top-flight pianist around.
Karen A. is an actor, singer/songwriter/producer, public speaker & marketer. Her sophomore album, “The Karen A. Clark Project”, is available on iTunes, Amazon & CD Baby.
Originally from Chicago, Maestro the Vocalinist believes that music is a shared, communal experience that is enhanced by the participants. To this end, he writes music that engages the audience in singing, clapping, and dancing. This music shows the influences of his world travels and combines sounds across several genres of music, from Classical to African to Hip-Hop.

Under the tutelage of Fernando Pullum, students in the FPCAC Jazz Band have performed domestically and internationally with incredible musicians, including Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Lionel Hampton, and Wynton Marsalis, to name a few. They have opened the Playboy Jazz Festival four times and, recently, they were honored to perform at the Emmy’s Nomination Reception.

Jazz Lounge brought to you in partnership with Dwight Trible and The World Stage, an educational and performance arts space in Leimert Park.

DJ MERC80 will be spinning throughout the day.

Also, a special performance by the S.H.I.N.E. Mawusi Women’s African Drum Circle, led by Rene Fisher-Mims.
