Los Angeles for Abolition: Dismantling Jails and Building Liberation
A Benefit for Critical Resistance with Ruthie Wilson Gilmore
2019 marks 15 years since the founding of the Los Angeles (LA) chapter of Critical Resistance and the beginning of the No New Jails campaigning in Los Angeles (2004). Since that time, the notion of ending our reliance on imprisonment, policing, and surveillance as solutions to social, economic, and political problems has sparked fires in the imaginations of people around the world and helped lay the foundation for victories against jail expansion in LA and beyond.
Critical Resistance (CR) invites you to join us for Los Angeles for Abolition: Dismantling Jails and Building Liberation on September 14, 2019 at the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC). We are excited to host firebrand scholar, researcher, and organizer Ruthie Wilson Gilmore in conversation with abolitionist organizer Michael Saavedra (Critical Resistance Los Angeles) and anti-prison activist and strategist Azadeh Zohrabi (Underground Scholars). We hope you can attend or support this special evening event of food, music, and conversation as we celebrate 15 years of organizing in Los Angeles to dismantle the prison industrial complex and build the world we need.
