Shades of Yale: Public Performance at Environmental Charter School!
Shades of Yale is an all-gender a cappella group from Yale University that celebrates music of the African Diaspora and African-American tradition. Shades was founded in 1988 by a Yale student named Titilayo Ngwenya and a group of her friends who wanted to create a space to celebrate music that was by people of color and for people of color. Since its inception 30 years ago, Shades has performed for the likes of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Nelson Mandela, Lenny Kravitz, and the Grammy award-winning group Sweet Honey in the Rock. Currently, the group is composed of 14 undergraduate students at Yale from all around the globe. We will be spending our winter break touring Los Angeles & the Bay Area of California and are so excited to share our music with you!
Shades is visiting Los Angeles this winter break and is so excited to perform at Environmental Charter School! Come for a night of R&B, Gospel, Soul, and traditional sprituals. Pizza and refreshments will be sold! Donations welcome. Tickets are available through Eventbrite & will also be sold at the door!
